Privacy Policy
The short version: everything happens on your own computer. This extension has no servers, collects no analytics, and never sees or stores your Claude data. The only outside company involved is our payment provider, and only if you decide to buy the Pro upgrade.
What this extension does
Claude Project Backup saves your Claude.ai projects to your computer. It exports your conversations, project knowledge, and artifacts as Markdown, JSON, and ZIP files.
What data the extension reads
When you click an export button, the extension reads your project and conversation data from Claude.ai. It does this through the browser session you are already signed in with, the same way the Claude.ai website loads your chats. It only runs when you ask it to. It does not read or monitor anything in the background.
Where your data goes
- Processing. All of it happens inside your browser. The extension fetches your data from Claude.ai, builds the export files on your machine, and saves them to your downloads folder. Nothing is sent anywhere else.
- Our servers. There are none. We do not run any server, database, or backend that could receive your data.
- Analytics and tracking. None. No analytics libraries, no telemetry, no usage tracking, no error reporting services.
- Selling or sharing your data. We do not sell, share, or transfer your data to anyone. We never have it in the first place.
Payments for the Pro upgrade
The optional Pro upgrade is handled by ExtensionPay, a payment service for browser extensions. Payments are processed by Stripe. If you decide to buy Pro:
- Your payment details, such as your card number and email, go to ExtensionPay and Stripe. This extension never sees them, and neither do we. Their privacy policies cover that transaction: ExtensionPay and Stripe.
- The extension talks to ExtensionPay for one purpose only: to check whether Pro is unlocked in your browser. Your Claude.ai data is never part of that check.
If you stick with the free version, no outside service is involved at all.
What the extension stores
The extension keeps a small amount of information in your browser's local extension storage: your settings and a record of your Pro license status. This stays on your device and is deleted when you uninstall the extension.
Why it asks for browser permissions
- Access to claude.ai. Needed so the extension can read the projects and conversations you ask it to export.
- Storage. Used for your settings and license status, as described above.
Your Claude.ai account
The extension never sees or stores your Claude.ai password. It relies on the login you already have in your browser. If you sign out of Claude.ai or uninstall the extension, its access ends completely.
Children's privacy
This extension is not aimed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, children included. By design, it does not collect personal information at all.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will post the updated version at this address with a new effective date. For example, if we ever add an optional cloud backup feature, anything that sends data off your device will be clearly explained and strictly opt in.
